2. Oliver Tank - Up All Night (51 plays)

I got a lot of mileage out of Oliver Tank last summer. Nothing quite beat having the windows rolled down on a warm July night, and letting the bass roll out like thunder. I might of woke a few neighbors, if the song wasn’t so dreamy, and I might have put a few of those neighbors who weren’t yet snoozing into a deep slumber.

Tank joins the Australian invasion of music, with his Boards Of Canada meets James Blake take on music. His first album, aptly named “Dreams” was released late November 2011, and we can surely expect some new material from the Aussie in the coming season.

Clocking it at number two on my favorite songs of last year; Oliver Tank with Up All Night.

I like to steer away from blogging the same artist twice, as i’m a bit of a musical expansionist. I try to hear as many bands as possible and I wind up with two or three favorites, but sometimes, on very rare occasions, I like more than a narrow selected work.

Kanye dropped an album after his mother’s death that a lot of people overlooked. Most of his other work was very easy to classify; Rap. But 808’s and Heartbreak was off in a completely different direction, and it still remains one of my favorite albums to date.

Oliver Tank is basically a combination of Heartbreak Kanye, Lowbeat James Blake and gentle Justin Vernon, and it just feels so right.

I had no idea who Oliver Tank was a month ago, and i’m still coming to terms with my ignorance. Try and imagine a time before you knew someone you’re very close to, a girlfriend, a best friend, a colleague or what have you. It seems strange to think you were able to function quite normally without this person, and that’s how I feel about Oliver Tank
